ILIAS: An Anthology of Caeda
Stories from a faraway land.
To the citizens of Ilias and members of Caeda MCRP,
Welcome to Caeda’s first short story anthology.
What is an anthology?
An ‘anthology’ is a group of work by multiple authors. As opposed to what is known as a ‘collection’ which is a group of work by a single author.
In this case, this is an anthology of short stories.
Who am I?
My name is Quinton Li.
Project manager and admin on Caeda MCRP
qxinn_ in-game and Se’raph in character
Author and anthology editor
I curated and edited Devout: An Anthology of Angels, and have been an assistant editor for a number of anthology projects.
About the project:
My passion for anthologies has brought this project to you! I’ve seen the incredible talent and characters of Caeda so I wanted to host a short story anthology project with the community, to give players a chance to write stories about their characters and be together in a publication.
Have you seen the story posts in #rp-noticeboard? It’s like that, but curated into a book!
There will be a free electronic book for the community to read at any time, and a physical paperback edition available for purchase.
I will be in charge of submissions, editing, formatting, and publication. You submit your writing to be included!
For Players
I invite all players to submit short stories about their characters. There will be a period to write and submit, before I commence the editing and publication process.
Please don’t self-reject! If you roleplay in the server enough that your character has connections to other characters, places or events, then you are qualified enough to submit to this anthology.
You can write about your backstory, current events, or theoretical events that would happen to your character, though have common sense about it. Write canonically to the lore of the server and your character.
If you are writing a story that involves characters by other players, please make sure they are aware and approve of your depiction of their characters.
Your piece should follow rules set by the server such as no slurs, minimal swearing, adherence to the medieval theme and no erotic writing/roleplay. Romance is allowed.
Your piece may not be accepted if you break the above rules, don’t fit into the theme of the anthology, or your writing needs more improvement than the editing timeframe allows. No matter the outcome, you will receive a notification of your result. Personalised feedback is not guarenteed.
Copyright will remain with the author of the piece. Anonymity will be maintained if you wish to use a screen name or pen name.
This anthology is community-based and not-for-profit. Contributions are voluntary and the final electronic publication will be available for all in the community to read at no charge. There will be a physical paperback edition available for purchase online, at the lowest cost it can be accounting for printing and shipping according to the respective storefront.
This anthology won’t be promoted for the intention of sale to the public. Though, by submitting to this project, you acknowledge that other people will read your work and your work may be purchased in a physical form for the paperback edition. You acknowledge that this is a publication under the name Quinton Li (Quinton Li Editorial), for legal, promotional and database purposes. When saying, ‘not for the intention of sale to the public’, this means that this publication is still listed as a book published by Quinton Li, and may appear online under Quinton Li’s name (Goodreads, Storygraph) or on the social profiles of Quinton Li (@itsquinnli on Instagram and Twitter), but it is not for commercial benefit and remains a not-for-profit community project.
Submission Guidelines
Writing format: Short story
Limits: 400 words - 5,000 words.
Multiple submissions: You can submit multiple shorter pieces which add to a word limit of 5,000 words, with a maximum of three pieces. Otherwise you can submit one piece within the word limit provided.
Simultaneous submissions: This is defined as submitting the same writing to multiple publications at the same time. Caeda lore and characters are rather unique already though it’s possible that writing based on Caeda can be seen as original work as well. I encourage that you write short stories for this anthology specifically, rather than intending to submit it to multiple places.
File format: Word document or PDF. (If using Google Docs, Pages etc., export to PDF).
Text should be formatted as 12pt Times New Roman, double line spacing, no extra line spaces between paragraphs, indented by 1 inch, with default margins for readability.
Art submissions: We have a number of visual artists in our server. If you’d like to submit art, you can do so in accompaniment with a written piece. This anthology is for short stories, so there won’t be standalone artwork. Accompanying art will be formatted besides the written piece in publication.
Submission deadline: July 15th 2024 (two months from announcement)
Expected publication: September 1st 2024. Celebrating 12 months since Caeda started picking up in activity. July-August will be used for editing, formatting, cover art and publication.
